Men’s Watch Buying Guide

By

Everyone has owned at least one watch in their life. Although the handy readout on the front of a cell phone has relegated watches to the back of some people’s underwear drawers, they will have certainly worn a Timex or a family heirloom on their wrist at some point. And lest we who are old enough forget the Swatch that we wore back in the 80’s or the cheap piece of plastic that never kept correct time that we pulled from the bottom of a kid’s fastfood meal. Regardless of past experiences with trendy or cheap watches, we can be sure that watches will always remain fashionable. Don’t let those cell phone users who stuff their watches behind their unmentionables fool you. They don’t speak for everyone, nor do they even speak for the majority. Watches have weathered the cell phone storm and are as popular now as they ever were. Stylish as they may be, a cell phone is often hidden away in a pocket or a simple case clasped to a belt. It is often been said that the clothes make the man, and a watch is part of that clothing. It makes a statement, it says who you are. It may be popular belief that a woman’s eyes stray to the shoes first, but they sweep up to the watch soon after. The watch that a man does or doesn’t wear says a lot to everyone around him, whether man or woman. Another reason watches are popular is that most men don’t get to wear much in the way of accessories. While women have numerous accessories (rings, necklaces, bracelets, earrings, etc.) to choose from, men only have a few choices. In fact, for most men, a watch is the only accessory that they would even consider. That makes it stand out even more, so it’s important that the watch you choose is a good one. Two brands of watches that often announce success are Rolex and Tag Heuer. These favorites do for a man what a mansion, a yacht, or a BMW does. They say that he is doing well. You may be able to chalk it up to society, but people are attracted to those who are successful. Rolex watches or Tag Heuer watches may not stand out in a crowd of wealthy men, but the point is made. Buying quality may not be cheap, but as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. Top of the line watch brands are fairly priced in that they last a lifetime and maintain their looks. Look online. It is not rare to find original models there that are discounted 30% or more from the street prices.
