Some experts are calling it a “bubble.” Others are referring to it as a temporary upsurge before the inevitable downward spiral. Still others are scratching their heads and wondering what to make of it. All of them are referring to the recent spot price of gold. Over the past couple of years, it has followed an upward trajectory that has surpassed most estimates. Today, with the price per ounce hovering at historic highs, many people are wondering whether now is the time to sell their gold for cash.

Below, we’ll explore the best ways to sell your gold and take advantage of the current “bubble”.”You’ll learn about the kinds of gold you can sell, which may suprise you, and what to expect when selling them. We’ll also offer a brief explanation regarding why prices have surged over the last two years. We’ll then turn our attention to calling the top of the market.

Potential Pieces You Can Sell For Cash

Many people are suprised to learn that they can sell virtually any peice that contains a significat amount of the precious metal. This is not limited to coins, necklaces, and bars. The list includes old fillings that may have fallen out, cufflinks and pendants that are no longer in style, and even wire. You can also sell gold rings, including your high school class ring and wedding band. You can exchange your old necklaces, bracelets and money clips into cold, hard cash.

A lot of people initially think they have no pieces to sell. In reality, millions of people have long-forgotten jewelry, tool parts, and scrap gold items that are hidden within their homes. An old box in the garage or attic might contain hundreds of dollars in such pieces.

What To Expect From Buyers

Once you have taken a thorough inventory of your home and gathered the pieces you would like to sell, you’ll need to find a buyer. Let’s cover a few ground rules to selling your gold. First, there is no shortage of people who will be willing to buy your items. Second, some buyers will offer a much higher price than others. Third, your best opportunity for receiving a high price is online.

If you can wait twenty-four hours before receiving a check, you should considering selling your pieces online. Your offline options include dealers, pawn shops, and jewelers. They’re appropriate if you need the cash the same day, but keep in mind the price they’ll offer you will be low.

When searching for an online buyer, avoid brokers. They merely accept your gold pieces and quickly sell them to refiners. Brokers cannot give you a competitive price for your items because they need to reserve a healthy margin for their profit. Work directly with a refiner and bypass the intermediary.

Why The Price Has Risen

So, why have spot prices risen so dramatically over the past couple of years? There are several possible reasons and many play a role. Gold is considered a reliable store of value. When a given currency plunges in value, investors often sell the falling currency and invest the proceeds in gold. Because there is a limited inventory of the metal, demand outstrips supply. What this means is, the more people buy, the higher the spot price goes.

Investors have tried in vain to call the top of the recent gold market. Not only is that extremely difficult (if not impossible), doing so can lead to disastrous consequences.

The Danger Of Calling The Top

Those who believe they can predict the direction of spot prices may be tempted to hold onto their gold pieces rather than selling them. The concern is that prices will continue to rise. Selling into an upward surge means hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars in forfeited profit. This is a dangerous game to play, especially with prices at historic highs. Some experts suggest the price per ounce is about to fall sharply to correct the previous upsurge.

If you own gold jewelry, fillings, money clips, or any other items you’re thinking about selling, take care not to wait too long. No one knows (though many have guessed) where spot prices are headed. Now may be an ideal opportunity to take advantage of the “bubble.”

There is a popular misconception that platinum and white gold are both lustrous cold white metals. If you have purchased a wedding band made from either platinum or white gold then you may think you have a white ring. Which do you prefer? Let’s look at the differences between them.

White gold – one of the most popular metals around these days when it comes to jewelry. However, white gold is not a natural substance. Pure gold is yellow and is far to soft to use as jewelry.

Pure gold is mixed with other metals to form a harder alloy that is then suitable for jewelry making. The quantity of pure gold in an alloy is measured in carats with 24 carat describing 100% pure gold. Once you create an alloy the purity drops so with gold, you end up with common alloys of 9 carat, 12 carat, 18 carat and 22 carat gold. Eighteen carat, for example, contains at least 75% pure gold.

Metals used to create jewelry white gold include copper, nickel, silver, zinc, and palladium. These metals also help to harden the white gold for jewelry use. The white gold effect is achieved through a bleaching process caused by silver or palladium. Some metals have a stronger bleaching effect than others, however they also have stronger hardening effects.

Wedding bands need to be hard so an 18 carat wedding band will have 75% pure gold, 10% palladium, 7.5% silver and 7.5% copper. A wedding band that is 18 carat white gold can be longer wearing than a yellow gold band of 18 carats. You can buy very cheap versions of white gold, however, they are generally made with inferior metals and don’t last as long as quality white gold.

Platinum – as precious metal, it is rarer and more expensive than pure gold. Platinum is much harder than pure gold and often needs to be alloyed to soften it a little for jewelry making purposes. Like white gold, platinum has various grades of purity and is actually a light grey in color – not white.

Since neither platinum or white gold are ‘white’, they need to be plated with a substance known as rhodium – this creates the brilliant white finish that both metals are famous for. Rhodium itself is rather soft and will wear away over a three to five year period. White gold wedding bands will eventually turn a dirty light grey in color as the rhodium wears off. Your platinum wedding ring will have a very light grey to off white look about it.

While platinum is far more expensive than white gold, they will both look like cheap metals once the rhodium plating wears off. Having your jewelry re-plated will bring back the brilliant white finish that white gold and platinum are famous for. Which is the better option for wedding bands, platinum or white gold? Because platinum was so expensive, metallurgists created white gold as an imitation. Today, white gold is popular for being white gold, not a platinum imitation. If you want the platinum look at half the price, you will only buy rubbish these days since gold has become so expensive. For anyone looking for the platinum finish, I suggest buying platinum.

If you like white gold as white gold, then make sure the alloys used are silver and palladium and not other cheaper metals. I like <a href=http://jewelrywhitegold.net/index.php/2009/12/28/caring-for-your-white-gold-jewelry/">white gold wedding bands, not because it looks like platinum, but because it looks like white gold.

If you intend having a gemstone added to your wedding band, then the ideal diamond is one that is small and well cut. You can find both white gold and diamonds through many websites. Just be sure to check the quality of the products first.

The BuyLowAuctions “stick” is that you never have to pay over $20 for anything….any they have $500 gift cards in the mix. Bids go up by a penny each bid, which makes for very interesting last 20 seconds. What intrigued me was that the bidding could go to $300 or $400 and yet the price would be $20….or less.

The BuyLowAuctions’ auction model is well thought out and very addicting so be careful….you might not get anything else done.

….OK. Got to get back to an auction that I’m watching.

From: unique diamond princess engagement rings. The one standout quality that diamond jewelry possesses (that makes them so desirable) is their ability to absorb light and disperse it back to the beholder. Humans have always been mesmerized by these light displays for centuries now.

In the jewelry industry, light performance is the description of how well a gem stone returns the light to the viewer. These light properties described in light performance are brilliance, fire, and scintillation.

Brilliance

Brilliance is how we perceive the diamond’s brightness. Normally, brilliance is not just the simple return of the light to the eyes of the beholder coming from the stone’s external and internal facets.

Brilliance is also more than just the scintillation, the availabilities of light sources and the contrasts. Included here would be the fluctuating variables of an imperfect human perception.

For some, brilliance is the most important feature to consider a gem stone’s beauty. This is because once brilliance is compromised, the diamond’s fire and scintillation are both reduced, too.

Steep diamonds should be set in such a way that the light can enter in the pavilion and is reflected back out to the table (the stone’s top-most facet). Leakages are when a “window effect” is produced and the diamond can be seen through like plain glass.

Scintillation

The idea of scintillation had been thought of as alternating flashes of contrasting dark and brightness produced by facets, caused in turn by the viewer’s movement, the gem stone or the illuminating source.

For some experts, defining and measuring scintillation cannot be done accurately, claiming that observations are always personal assessments.

Others would define it as a contrast for brilliant white or fiery colored sparkles that appear brighter to the human eye. “Sparkly” things always catch and attract attention.

One expert defines two kinds of scintillation. Static scintillation is “the amount and the placement of darkness in a gem seen … [face-up view] in a jewelry store environment from a distance of 16 inches.” Dynamic scintillation “is the sparkle effect [one sees] when [any one of the] diamond, the light or the observer moves.”

Generally, scintillation is the total effect when small flashes of light are seen when the gem stone, the light source or the viewer is moved. Consequently, a diamond that is cut and polished that gives off a high level of this quality is considered high in light performance.

There is a common assumption that gem stones with additional facets are more scintillating. (Strangely though, some customers likes better the bolder, blocky scintillation of the Old Mine cuts.)

Fire

The so-called fire in a gem is its ability to disperse white light into its component colors. These are the spectral colors which are produced when the diamond disperses back the light like an expensive prism.

These flashes of color are more intense and more attractive, though.

However, maximum brilliance and maximum fire cannot be observed at the same time, with the same view and at the same point. Brilliance is best seen in well-lighted areas and fire appears better in a point-lit room.

Whichever quality attracts you to gem stone jewelry – brilliance, scintillation, or fire – you certainly are one of those men and woman who had fallen to the magic charms of a very beautiful-looking stone.

When estimating the value of a diamond, one can argue that clarity is just as important as any of the other four C’s. Being overwhelmed when first starting out shopping for diamonds is not uncommon, especially when analyzing diamond clarity grade presented by a jeweler. However, after doing some research on the factors that determine the value of a diamond, you will soon realize that understanding how diamonds are grade is not so complicated.

The two aspects of diamond clarity grading include inclusions and blemishes. One example of an inclusion is laser lines, which result from diamond enhancement procedures. When a diamond has a scratch or abrasion on the surface, this is what’s known as a blemish.

Diamond Inclusions

An evaluation of a diamond’s clarity consists of factoring in eight different types of inclusions. An inclusion generally is located within the diamond and is thought of as a flaw. Therefore, the diamond will not be graded as high and not be worth as much.

Sometimes an inclusion results from the abnormal growth of a diamond’s crystals. Inclusions will sometimes take the appearance of slight lines and streaks on diamonds. Inclusions can also be caused by structural flaws, such as tiny cracks in the diamond.

Inclusions negatively affect the beauty and brilliance of a diamond because they don’t allow light to freely pass through. Also, inclusions affect the diamond’s ability to scatter and transmit light. Inclusions have been referred to as “nature’s fingerprints” and are natural imperfections, but are not able to be seen by the naked eye.

Examples of inclusions include minerals or crystals imbedded in a diamond. These could also be smaller diamonds that got stuck inside the larger diamond while the crystal was forming.

A few other kinds of inclusions include:

• Feathers
• Knots
• Cavities
• Internal graining

Diamond Blemishes

The amount of blemishes a diamond has is another key factor used in figuring out a clarity grade. Blemishes, as opposed to inclusions, are imperfections that appear on the outside surface of the diamond. Frequently, a blemish is caused by natural occurrences. Though, polishing and cutting the diamond can also cause blemishes.

Because blemishes can not be seen very easily with the naked eye, they won’t negatively impact the appearance of a diamond much. Therefore, if you are more of a casual buyer and don’t care about owning a perfect diamond, this plays to your advantage. Diamonds with blemishes will get a lower clarity grade, which will make them more affordable for you while still getting a beautiful diamond.

Some examples of blemishes include:

• Grain boundries
• Scratches
• Pits
• Nicks

An important point to remember when searching for diamond jewelry or a diamond is to buy from a jeweler or company that you can trust. A qualified jeweler will assist you in understanding a diamond clarity chart even more and selecting the diamond you want.

Perhaps you have one or two questions about iced out jewelry. This article will answer five of the top questions you may possibly have about buying a iced out jewelry in additional to offering a few extra tips.

Who popularized iced out jewelry?
Iced out jewelry was made acceptable through the unique community of rappers and professional professional athletes who wore over- sized, pricey, jewelry filled with diamonds or ‘ice. ‘ The attractiveness of the stars wearing them influenced the general public into wearing them, creating a marketplace for less expensive iced out jewelry.

What is referred to as ‘the spinner?’
The most favorite iced out jewelry is a pendant called ‘the spinner’ which was launched by rap group 50 Cent and G- unit. Mass manufactured spinners possess a platinum appearance and are decorated with cubic zirconium. They hang over a chain of either a necklace or a bracelet. Spinner pendants usually weigh 150 grams and are 21/2 inches in diameter for necklaces.

What is iced out jewelry?
Iced out jewelry is jewelry that is designed to be covered in diamonds which are referred to as ‘ice’ by the general public, and constructed of unique metals. This kind of jewelry might cost thousands of dollars. Today, several manufacturing businesses create precise reproductions of this type of jewelry making use of cheaper substances. Therefore, you will get iced out jewelry for less than 100 dollars.

What are the three most well liked groups of iced out jewelry?
The 3 classes of most popular iced out jewelry are watches, teeth ‘grillz’ and pendants. Wrist watches that are studded with diamonds, pearls and made with gold are one favorite category of iced out jewelry. ‘Grillz’ are teeth caps that were built of diamonds and gold which individuals put on on his or her front teeth. Necklaces, pendants and earrings are the last category for these kinds of jewelry. They are accepted because they come in various types for instance dollar signs, keys, hearts and star shapes fully filled with diamonds.

From: cushion cut engagement rings. Diamonds are forever, so the song goes. That might be so, but your diamond jewelry still requires proper care and cleaning or you will not enjoy its celebrated beauty.

Like any other personal ornament, gem jewellery needs some periodic cleaning and grooming to be at its best. The following are some practical care tips collated over time from gem stone owners.

Dirt and grime

A clean diamond shows more brilliance and fire than any stone of its kind that is dirty, smudged, or covered with grime. These definitely lessen the beauty of your jewelry.

This is simply because oil, dirt, or water reduces the natural sheen of the stone. Oil is usually caused from constant touching and natural day-to-day handling of your diamond jewelry.

Dirt and grime, on the other hand, often settle at the bottom of the diamond. These interfere with the diamond’s brilliance.

The minutest film of oil that smudges the stone reduces the diamond’s capacity to reflect light. Dyes or other colored liquid materials can also have an effect on the apparent color of your stone.

Precautions

While it might be the hardest mineral and can only be cut or polished by another gem stone, a really hard blow can cause these stones to chip.

Doing rough work, strenuous sports and other heavy activities might also be risky. They can loosen clasps, bezels and other holding mechanisms of your jewelry’s stone.

It is good policy to remove jewelry when going into a swimming pool, Jacuzzi or hot tub. Chlorine and bleach could accumulate in your jewellery and make the gold and other metals brittle and could loosen the prongs that hold the stones.

Everyday toiletry items can dull your diamond’s luster. Lotions, soaps, powders, perfumes, hair sprays, and your own skin oils can diminish your diamond’s sparkle.

Cleaning

If you do your own cleaning, you can prepare a mix of warm water and any mild detergent. Put in some few drops of ammonia, if you have it.

Soak your jewelry for some minutes to loosen the grime and the oil. Afterwards, very gently clean your jewelry with an old toothbrush. (An eyebrow brush is very good.)

Using warm water, rinse away the sudsy feel. With a soft lint-free cloth, pat it dry while trying not to touch it (if possible) with your bare fingers.

There are commercial jewellery cleaners that come with applicators that you can buy and quickly clean your jewelry. Be careful to read and follow the instructions well.

Regular inspection

Everyday use (putting on and taking off) of your gem jewelry might loosen some of the metal frames. It is good to inspect your jewelry regularly.

Take it to a competent jeweler if you suspect something is loose for fixing. It is good policy if you can have you diamond jewelry examined once a year. The jewelers can do repair work, if there is need of one, and can do the cleaning as well.

Storing

Never store all your jewelry together in a bunch. The diamonds can scratch all the other gemstones, metals, and the other diamonds.

Your gem jewelry is best stored in a fabric-lined case with individual compartments. Wrap them separately in soft cloth (or tissues) or in jewelry pouches for each piece. When you wear them, you can enjoy them in all their glorious best.

From one of a kind princess cut engagement rings. Colored Diamonds are usually cut to make the most of the exquisiteness of the gem’s color. A high-quality cut highlights the Gem’s color, moderates its attachments and unveils superior regularity and proportion. Since Gemstone color can differ, there are no rigid geometrical principles to follow to maximize the radiance of the stone. The cut of the rare Diamonds are usually done with no thought for its color.

Cut considerations

The percentage of the stone together with its gleam and exactness in faceting conclude the amount of the stones ability to exude beauty and fire. If you are to assess the significance of cutting the Gem, you might just arrive at the thought that it is everything. The stone’s cut intensely affects the energy, brightness and vivacity together with its observed size and its plain color.

With the previously mentioned identification of the stones brilliance the cut made on it must be geometrically precise, meaning the facets of the stone must be properly aligned which would allow enough light to come in to the stone which in turn would reflect on the upper large side.

Gemstone cuts

Round brilliant cut- this is the most widely accepted surface cut for most of the Gems which includes Diamonds that are known for deflecting the most light. The regular round brilliant cut normally has 24 faces on its pavilion, 32 faces on its crown and a table surface.

Cabochon cut- this cut is known for being flat on its bottom and rounded on its upper portion. This cut is known as the primogenital and a common cut, its variety includes: oval, round, triangular, and sometimes even octagonal cuts.

Oval cut- this is the spin-off of the round brilliant cut.

Emerald cut- less deflective among all the other kinds of cut, but this is considered as the best cut for emeralds. Its variations include trillion and square.

Radiant cut- consists of 70 surfaces and is naturally rectangular in shape with small cut on its corners. When done on a Diamond, its crown corner consists of a blend of the pavilion section and the brilliant-step cut scheme.

At the end of the day, there really is no single and standard arrangement regarding what angle to utilize for faceting the different Diamonds. The definition of the best cut is rather subjective for it is completely dependent on the personal preference of the person who wants the stone to be cut.

We live in a strange world where sometimes ethics take over from common sense. I can fully understand the problems some people have with the concept of stem cells, particularly when they are collected from fetuses after pregnancy terminations.

Of course, if that pregnancy had been allowed to continue the resultant birth would have provided far more in the way of stems cells than that obtained through an unborn fetus. I am not advocating for or against terminations here, just stating an fact.

With every newborn baby comes an umbilical cord and placenta. These are full of blood that they baby no longer requires, blood that is full of stem cells. After delivery, the umbilical cord is cut close to the baby’s stomach. This is done once the baby has been successfully delivered and is no longer relying on the cord for food or oxygen. The opposite end of the umbilical cord is attached to the placenta and once that has exited the body, the whole lot is generally disposed of as hospital human waste.

The blood found in that umbilical cord is full of stem cells. Stem cells are actually the basic building blocks of human life. Once an egg has been fertilized, stem cells start the growth of every part of our body. In some strange way, each stem cell seems to have a particular role. It will become a heart, or a kidney, or anyone of the umpteen thousand other cells found in human body.

Scientists are now trying to find out exactly how stem cells work. Why does one stem cell develop into a kidney while another develops into a liver, or heart or another part of the body. More importantly, how can they encourage a stem cell to grow a new heart or kidney.

What is known is that children with some forms of leukemia have been treated with stem cells and had their disease reversed. There have been a few similar situations in adults. Scientist feel that with further research, they may be able to unlock the stem cell’s triggers, thereby regrowing nerves in para/quadriplegics, those with various diseases such as Alzheimer’s, motor neuron and perhaps even type one diabetes.

There is a lot of excitement over what stem cell therapy can do for those that are sick or impaired. Of course, like all treatments that involve the transfer of human tissue from human to an other, there are the problems associated with rejection and blood matching. Stem cells do at least have a lower rejection factor than more mature cells.

What has become a growing industry is that of cord blood banking for personal use. This is now big business with fees for this service running into thousands of dollars. The object of the exercise is to bank baby’s cord blood for future use. The theory is that if baby develops any serious problems in later life (like leukemia), they will have access to their own stem cells to help with the treatment. To date, hundreds of people have stored their baby’s blood, but few have found it necessary to make a withdrawal. For those who have, the results have been extremely good.

Should you bank your baby’s cord blood. It’s a personal decision and certainly for those that have a family history of medical problems, storing stem cells may offer some benefit into the future particularly as science finds new ways to use these cells. For the majority of people, it could be a waste of money. They may be better off donating their baby’s cord blood so that others can benefit from the research and the stockpiles available for treatments. The money saved could ensure your child received a decent preschool to college education.

With five kids we have learned a lot so when it comes to dealing with childhood problems we’ve seen it all. Visit our site if you would like more information on umbilical cord blood banking or childhood promblems.

If you are in the mindset to getting a nice house for a really good price, then NOW is the time to buy that property. Whether you are in California home market, Arizona real estate, or any state in the USA; you would be best served if you purchased your next real estate product in 2010. We are never going to see lower prices than what we are experiencing now.

If you are upside down on your mortgage and the home’s value, its a good time to ask your accountant about the benefits of getting out from under now instead of struggling month after month because you believe the value will meet the mortgage amount. If you are paying higher than market value for your house in hopes of prices going back up to the original amount, ask your CPA if it makes sense to struggle with that payment. Housing prices will increase at the steady rate of 3 to 6% each year, so how far do you have to wait for the values to go past your mortgage amount? Think about it. Some family on the same street is paying 30 to 40% less than you are for the same house. Your dollar today is worth alot more than it will be 2 years from now. Talk to your accountant or financial advisor.

We have homes at below market prices for our preferred investors, so be sure to get on our list today so you can be one of the first to know when we have good deals available for sale. We help people get out of overleaveraged houses so they can make their dollars work better for them. Get on our mailing list or contact us if you have questions about stopping foreclosure and damaging your credit.

CA Homes and Real Estate is a blog from Alamo Capital Partners that gives information about the California real estate market and other points of interest in the lovely northern California region.
